Web UX, Design & Development Checklist

Your website is the first and most important tool you have for presenting your brand, communicating your unique product offerings, and attracting customers. And your audience is no fool! From the structure to the design, resolution, breakpoints, CTAs, responsiveness, and comprehensive integration with all other marketing tools and capabilities-everything about your website must be meticulously planned and executed.

Planning
- Write 250 words about the startup, including the startup’s services/products.
- Write an Intro for building the website and main goals. For example:
  “As part of (company name) development and expansion, we are looking forward to upgrading our brand awareness and gain new paying customers. In order to do that we will need to provide clear content about our product solution and added value, which will further be reflected through improving our design language.”
- Define a specific target release date and product owner – at least 2 target audiences and 4 target audience’s pains.
- Set numeric goals – at least 3-4 goals. For example, Increase leads generating by 20% (3 months from launch), Get 200 newsletter signups (3 months from launch) , Decrease bounce rate by 10% (2 months from launch), etc.
- List 2-3 references for websites you liked.
- Preliminary sitemap – What each page on the website will include, list of contents.
UX
- Write or draw a final sitemap, using Axure, balsamiq, a napkin, a whiteboard, or whatever.
- Your sitemap should look something like this
- you should have a final list of pages that will be on the website.
- Build wireframes for the homepage, iterate, iterate some more.
- Now build wireframes for all the other pages in the sitemap.
Content
- You now need to create a Messaging Matrix. This is where all your key messaging and copy lives. You can see our checklist on Messaging Matrix and create your own.
- Once you have finalized your Messaging Matrix, write content on each of the pages you have in your sitemap, (which is actually your list of contents for the website.)
- Make sure the content you write is descriptive, SEO optimized, and action-oriented, you should have at least two clear CTAs on each page.

- As an Israeli startup, do yourself a favor and make sure to have a professional English writer proofread your content.
Design
The final goal is to have a perfect design for each page on the sitemap. All designs should be managed in a system such as Invision or Marvel which allows you to experience the site as a “live” site, including the navigation before it is actually developed.
- Call to action – Customers are more likely to contact you if you have call to actions on your website. “Let’s talk!” or “Schedule a demo” is a polite suggestion that shows your startup is interested in building a partnership with its customers. The level of engagement a visitor has with your startup’s website should be considered when creating call to actions. For example, invite them to subscribe to your email newsletter if they’re just discovering your business. If they’re already loyal customers, they might enjoy your brand’s loyalty rewards program. Always have a call to action at least once on each page.
- Clean design – A clean, appealing design is one of the most important things to remember during the website design process. A good design is attractive and easy to understand, with simple navigation. Overall, a clean design allows users to focus on the value of your brand and content, rather than distracting visuals and large amounts of text.

- Color scheme – We usually underestimate the importance of color schemes. Colors can elicit a variety of emotional responses, including calm, happiness, and frustration. It’s important to think about your startup’s niche, target audience, branding, and color theory when using colors in your website design.
- Design flow check – Share the final designs that you have set up on Invision or Marvel between peers and partners to see their reactions. If the general feedback is good, go ahead and move the design towards development.
Development
- Google’s website speed test – should be 75% and above on desktop and mobile.
- Page load speed – should be less than 3 seconds. To check the page load speed, we recommend using the tool Pingdom.
- The pages’ HTML development must follow the guidelines and development recommendations of Google Lighthouse, according to the https://web.dev/ standards. For example, failure to render elements on the page so that they cause module shifts and a poor user experience.
- Use a CMS that is SEO-friendly and easy to manage. In short, use WordPress :).
- Compatibility – The ability of your website to adapt to different browsers and devices is referred to as compatibility. The majority of users, including the majority of younger customers, use multiple devices to complete their digital journey. Ensuring that your website is compatible with all of the ways to access and enjoy it is a must. And browser versatility is also important! A single line of defective code may prevent your website from running on any browser, including those from other countries. Be sure to test your compatibility across all browsers and devices as soon as possible.
QA

This is the stage where you have to click on each and every button on the site to ensure that it is functioning properly.
Analytics
- Set up Google Analytics.
- Set goals.
- Set up a new designed VIEW for the website.
- Each module and feature will have its own GA measurement guidelines (if required). If it wasn’t defined then the basic measurements are sufficient:
  1. Pressing buttons
  2. Scroll depth
  3. Clicking on certain banners
  4. Amount of leads
  5. Watch the videos
  6. Clicks on outbound links
  7. Third-party platforms like ZOOM ANALYTICS
  8. Implementation of Google Tag Manager – GTM
  9. All of the events listed above must be implemented using the GTM
  10. If there is an error in submitting a form or in form validation – you should set in Analytics
SEO
- Full compatibility with SEO for titles, descriptions, etc.
- Any page should contain “bread crumbs”.
- Settings by page:
  a. Title Tag (Required Field)
  b. Meta description (required field)
  c. Canonical
  d. Hreflang (for additional language support) – Only appear on pages that have additional language
  e. Appearance on a sitemap (yes / no)
  f. Handling schemas for better indexing in search engines
